JOB SUMMARY: This individual provides positive leadership that supports excellence in teaching for learning throughout the college. Responsible for the production and delivery of professional development opportunities that employ current learning theory and effective pedagogy to both new and experienced faculty with the expectation that innovative teaching methodology that enhances student engagement and active learning will be emphasized. Provides faculty training that supports and incorporates the use of technology in the classroom to support quality instruction. Consults academic administration and faculty to determine current professional development needs including faculty orientation and initiates and maintains the faculty mentoring and induction program. Coordinates with faculty to develop and promote best practices in curriculum design and assessment of student learning. Supervises the staff of the Brobst Center for Teaching and Learning Services encompassing Instructional Technology and Design, Classroom Multimedia, and Distance Learning and coordinates the activities for the effective development and delivery of courses and curricula in alternative delivery formats. Collaborates with academic departments for curriculum organization and design, oversees Hawkeye’s Learning Management System, and supports multiple modes of course delivery including online, hybrid, web enhanced, ICN/EBS and traditional face-to-face. Manages the Iowa Communication Network (ICN) and the Educational Broadcast System (EBS) to ensure uninterrupted delivery of college courses to receiving sites. Directs the maintenance, purchase, and inventory of classroom multimedia equipment. Researches and supports faculty in the use of the most current instructional technologies. Supports academic administration and faculty with assessment and evaluation of student learning and teaching effectiveness. Coordinates with Academic Affairs to ensure effective implementation of the College’s Quality Faculty Plan. Maintains and ensures the content of the Brobst Center for Teaching and Learning Services website is current. Serves as College liaison to the Distance Learning Regional Telecommunications Council (RTC) and various other committees. Promotes collaboration and team work throughout all levels of the college. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in education, educational technology, curriculum and instruction or related field. Five years teaching experience including postsecondary instruction. Experience with curriculum development, curriculum design, online teaching and learning, online learning platforms, instructional methodology, instructional/computer technology, faculty development, management of a team, planning, evaluation, assessment, faculty development. Ability to work flexible hours including evenings/weekends. Ability to work with persons with varied backgrounds and educational levels while maintaining a high level of professionalism is important. A working knowledge of community college philosophy and mission is expected. Preferences include community college teaching experience.
