We are on the verge of a new era in leadership in the Greater Des Moines area and YOU can be a key part of it!

The Latina Leadership Initiative of Greater Des Moines (LLI) is a growing community project designed to prepare young Latinas to become the next generation of leaders.

Through a specified course of classes and a mentoring partnership, the program is designed to be a unique model that will guide Latina women’s personal and profession growth within their communities, as well as the mainstream community.

The LLI is looking for Latinas ages 20-30 in the beginning stages of their careers to participate in a series of classes designed to give you the resources, knowledge and confidence to make a difference in your life and community.

The curriculum addresses:

  • Empowerment
  • Teamwork
  • Community building
  • Culture and language
  • Civic engagement
  • Issues affecting the Latina community
  • Social changes
  • Public speaking
  • Networking
  • Career advancement and development
  • How to run meetings, and manage projects and budgets
  • And much more

A steering committee will review all applicants and select members for the Fall 2014 LLI class. Classes will meet two Saturdays a month from 10AM to 4PM September through February 2014 (See Upcoming Events for exact dates). Members are expected to attend all class sessions, work with their assigned mentor, and complete 2 service projects.

Applications and a $25 application fee* will be due to the LLI office by 3pm on June 1, 2014.

All checks should be mailed to:

2925 Ingersoll Ave. Ste. 3

Des Moines, IA 50312

Cost of the program is $300. Payment plans are available and can be selected during the application process.  We do not want cost to stop anyone from applying. If you are interested, please apply and indicate that you are interested in assistance or a payment plan and LLI will work with you so that cost does not prohibit anyone from participating.
